we're playing may 4th at the riot room in kc with another really good Nebraska band, this one from Lincoln, pharmacy spirits. lite loins, thadd from the armory's new band, is playing the show too.
our last two shows were recorded, but they haven't been mixed yet. hopefully we'll have that done soon.

i wrote a song last week that i like a lot.
the working title is 'details'.
here's the acoustic demo i recorded right after i wrote it...

we had practice yesterday to work on some new songs and get a set ready for the shows at the end of march, we played 'details' a few times, i think it already sounds pretty good...

we have 20 cassette tapes made for the GOODWILLIES version of fractals in heat.

working on the third album
it seems like not finishing anything has become my style.
we got the pro tools sessions from chris cosgrove about a month ago for the seccond album, and i've almost got the mixing done, but we're already starting on a third album. the first album (fractals in heat) still hasn't been released because i stopped mixing it when we started on the 2nd album (casino economy). if i don't finish mixing the 2nd album soon, i'm pretty sure i'll lose interest and just start working on tracking the 3rd album.
i need to take some focus drugs and make lists of things to do to get these first two albums done, or i might just let them die. if you want a copy of either one, i can send you a link to a zip file of the latest mixes or something.

we'll be playing a few kc shows this spring, and we'll probably do some regional touring in the fall. we're playing at recordBar with a pretty awesome band from vancouver called brasstronaut on march 29th.
and we're playing with a really, really awesome band from lincoln called pharmacy spirits at the riot room on tuesday may 4th.
i'm sure we'll be playing some lawrence shows this spring too.

last show of the year is tomorrow
where to start....
there's been lots going on lately. first off, apologies to those who came out to the pistol last tuesday, there's a long story about why we couldn't play that involves the pa breaking, the show starting late, people bitching people out about lack of functional equipment, people walking out, people apologizing later, people from new zealand that we like (batrider) that didn't get to hear us play... but i'll save that for some other time, or maybe i'll just forget about it.
i've been playing bass for witch and hare for the last few months. they've been one of my favorite local bands for a few years. they played the last spidermums kc show and they played the first high diving ponies kc show. a few months ago, amy said they were looking for a new bass player, so i offered to learn the bass parts and play shows with them. it's been fun learning their songs, they're in a style i've never played before, and i haven't played bass for a band in a few years.
last sunday, witch and hare played the last show at a house venue called Harrison Fort with Talk Normal, Wet Hair (well, they didn't play because the cops showed up), and there was a short noise set by a new band with matt (the church, spell master), sorry i don't know the name.
about halfway through the witch and hare set, the cops showed up. they were banging on the doors and windows, so we stopped the music, but no one let them in. then a cop opened the window from the front porch and climbed in, completely illegal.
the people that live at the house were being really nice to the cops even though the cops were total dicks. somehow someone got pepper sprayed. so i started getting our equipment out of their house as fast as i could, the pepper spray was making my throat and eyes burn. on the way out, i fell down and almost broke my ankle. interesting evening.
tomorrow i'm playing in two bands at the brick. witch and hare (i'm playing bass) are playing at 10pm, burger kingdom will play at 11, and high diving ponies will play at midnight.

super rough recording of a new song
on sunday, al and justin came over and we played a bunch of songs they'd never heard before. this is one of them, called "pissing off all the right people". we played it a few times so they could get the basic structure, then i hit record. this was recorded about 15 minutes after they'd first heard the song. i like their parts a lot, and i feel like i haven't posted enough stuff lately, so here you go.

the last few weeks have been really awesome.
chomp womp soda fest was great.
thanks to everyone who played, promoted,
hosted, helped in any way.
total lurv.
minneapolis was super amazing too.
i threw up SO MUCH.
washed the hangover away in a lake.
thanks to brian, the bands we played with,
and the lovely people who let us
crash in their apartment
and led us into a lake.
we've got lots of new songs,
but we haven't had time to record them yet.
al will be in mexico for about a month.
there will be more shows in august.
probably another soda fest this fall.
maybe a finished full length this fall too.
who knows? not me.
